Audience Feedback

From our audience feedback, all our comments liked the heavy breathing and screaming as they felt it was effective and showed the genre of our film. People had different opinions on the fast transactions, we agreed with Jonty's comment as the quick pace builds tension. The comments recieved were constructive and positive and were from the audience we were targetting. We were unsure of the word 'wrong' and what the audience would think of the effect of it, however the audience seemed to like it. From this feedback I feel we could have made the transitions slightly slower to suit both nimran and jontys taste. This would still have added suspense but also made it not look as rushed targetting all of our audience.

Evaluation of Coursework

Overall I felt our group worked very hard over the several weeks in order to create a realistic teaser trailer, poster and magazine cover. We researched lot of these types of media in order to fit the conventions and make them look effective and realistic. I felt reseach helped us lot in deciding how to layout our three types of media as we looked at upcoming trailers, posters and magazines. Without this research we wouldnt have made our medias look realistic as we wouldnt have followed the correct conventions. We had many problems with creating these medias, including failures to upload, disagreements on the colours of our magazines and Pinnacle not doing what we had in mind for our teaser trailer. The magazine was time consuming as we kept changing it, one lesson we would like the layout and colour scheme, then we would look back and want to change it. I am sure if we had longer to do our coursework our final magazine cover would still not stay the same. However I am happy with the layout of our magazine cover and felt it looks a lot better now after we made it less busy and easy to read. One thing I would change is the colour scheme, as it was not my idea to have red, green and white. I would have tried different colours until I felt happy. However we agreed on the colour scheme as the colours fitted our colours for our poster and fonts for or teaser trailer. I felt this did work well as i did not want these colours as it lead to continuity throughout our three pieces of media.

Overall i felt our posters looked good, although our film poster wasn't our original idea, due to lack of lighting we were not able to do what we wanted. This was lead to lack of planning, if we had booked the studio previously we would have been able to have time to fix lighting and continue with our original idea. I have learnt to be more organised when planning our posters as the image needs a lot of time to portray to how we want it to look. However I feel the house does portray a narrative to where the film will be situated. If i could change the poster I would have swapped the images from our teaser poster to our film poster as feel the image of Grace was more narrative for our film poster. We have now swapped the poster images over as we felt th poster portrays more narrative with Grace as the image rather than the house. Also i would have used a camera from home as i feel the images are not as clear as I would have liked them. Now i know we could have been more prepared and tested out different cameras in order to get the best qualtiy image as we could. I am happy with our posters and feel they fit the conventions of real film posters.

I am happy with our teaser trailer as I feel it fits all the conventions. It doesn't give too much narrative away and viewers can still have ideas about what is going to happen. If I could change our trailer I would make sure I used a lot more camera angles etc to make the film look more professional. However as this was made to look like a home video we didn't use many camera angles on purpose. Also i feel the fonts could have been made to look more proffessional, we thought we were happy with the ones supplied on Word, however when we saw other groups fonts they had found on the Internet, they looked more proffessional. This i felt we should have definately done.

Overall i feel our three media types look good and fit the conventions of real film posters, teaser trailer and magazine covers. I would like to do this again as I feel I could put a lot more skills into my work as I have more experience now. I have learnt how to use Pinnacle a lot better now, as I can use transitions and other devices on the programme. I also have learnt the conventions of all of the medias and I feel I could do a lot more now to recreate these types of medias.

Animatics

This is our anamatics for our teaser trailer. We filmed our storyboards and added transitions to show what we had planned to do for our trailer. We hd trouble uploading these and felt it was very time consuming, however now they are working I feel these storyboards are effective and show what we plan to do for our teaser trailer.

Film Poster Final

We Photoshopped the house to make it lighter, as we printed out our one previously and it was too dark. We thought if this was displayed, passers by and our audience would have trouble seeing the image. now it is much lighter and our final poster has now been developed.

New Magazine Cover - Final

We wanted to change our magazine cover as we felt it was too busy. We took out two headlines to make it less cramped and were not as important. As Grace is our main focus and 'La Femme' is the concentrated film we had two stroylines about the film and the actress on the cover. The 'La Femme Premier Lowdon' is now at the bottom and a lot bigger to grab readers attention. We also added an exclamation mark at the end to make it look more interesting and make readers want to read the article more. We saw this on a film magazine and thought this worked well to make the cover more eye catching. Also we changed some of the text into capital letters, on the 'DVD's you must own', we changed the 'you' into capitals to make it more personal to the reader and grabs their attention more making them want to read the magazine. We also made 'plays' in the snakeman heading not in capitals as we wanted 'Brad Willis' and 'Snakeman' to stand out more as these are the more important words. Also we put 'Grace Tree as' in italics as this is emphasising her real name and then her name clearly as the character. I feel this works well as it is different text use. Also 'Lowdown' and 'Revealed' I put in bold, this is to emphasise more the important words indicating that it is all inside. The 'win' in the circle we also changed to another font as I felt that the other font looked a bit cheap and basic. I feel this works a lot better. We also changed the 'La Femme' into red as it is a signature colour for the film, we then changed the 'Lowdown' to white as it was then too red. I feel this doesn't look as good however we need to keep the continuity of our signiture colour of our film title.

Beyond, the magazine name we made a lot bigger as we want passers by to notice our title and want to read our magazine, this makes it stand out more and makes it instantly recognisable.

Overall our magazine has had a lot of changes as there is a lot of information on this rather than our posters. We wanted to fit the conventions as much as possible to make it more realistic and looking like a real magazine cover. I feel now our magazine doesn't look as busy and now it is easier to read for passers by as there is not as much text. I am happy with our magazine and feel it could be easily read on a shelf now.

Change in Film Poster

Our origninal poster was going to be the three students moving into the house, in a dark room with the girl (Emma Lou) standing behind them. We wanted to do this in our dance/drama studio at school, however we tried this set up but the lighting wasnt appropriate for the photo and wasn't clear enough for our poster. We decided to change the poster as we wanted our audience to understand and see our poster clearly.

EP Logo

This is our logo for our production company, 'Easton Productions', we wanted a logo as it can be recognised by the audience and used on other films we make, to make it seem more realistic. We chose the colours red and black as 'La Femme' is mainly in these colours. I feel this logo looks proffessional and suitable to put on the begginning of our teaser trailer to show our production company.

First draft of teaser trailer

This is our first draft of our trailer on Pinnacle. We took out the knife scene as it didnt fit anywhere in the clip and wouldnt make sense as you can see. We had no transitions at this point however where the cuts are we will have a fade to black transition. At the beggining we will add the productions comapany and at the end our film title and the date of the film. We are thinking about adding some text into our teaser trailer in order to make it look more scary to emphasise our thriller genre. However i am pleased with our first editing of our teaser trailer.

Stages of Teaser Poster

This is our final teaser poster, i feel it has no narrative but will have audiences making their assumptions of the film. i feel it look interesting and people will want to know why the girl is so signifiant.

This is our first draft of the poster. We had the film title in white to stand out against the black background and also on the side as i felt this looked good. However we decided to have it centre as we wanted the film title to stand out more in order to catch passers by's attention. We had the title in white and coming soon in red, however we swapped these as we wanted the film title to be more scary as red indicates blood and danger. Coming soon is now in white to stand out at the bottom.

Film poster stages

Everything is the same, however as we made our magazine a more christmas theme we changed the date of the film from July to December to make the dates more realistic and to keep the continuity of the dates.

We uploader the image and made the title 'La Femme' in red as we feel this looks better and stands out more.

This was our first draft of our poster. We wanted to fit the conventions of a film poster and make it look realsitic. We had La Femme in white as it stands out on the black background, making passers by take in the film name. July 7th is in red to indicate danger on that day. Underneaththe date we had a website and the producers, actors etc to fit the conventions of a typical film poster. We have yet to add an image.

La Femme Film Poster

This is our poster for La Femme. We took a picture outside Katies house at around 7pm in order to make the house look more scary as it is dark. this is the same house on the film to make it more realistic and believable. The La Femme again is in red to indicate danger and also the date of the film, this makes it more sary as it indicates that it is the date you will be scared. Overall i feel this film poster is effective and fits all conventions of a film poster.

La Femme Teaser Poster

This is our teaser poster for our film. We didnt want to give much information as it is a teaser explaining the 'coming soon'. The image i feel is effective as the main focus on the cover is Grace. The candle makes the film poster look more scary reflecting its genre. We chose to have our film name in red because the colour indicates blood and danger. The coming soon is white to make this stand out against the black to inform the audience that he film will be out soon.
I feel our teaser poster is effective and will catch passers by, making them want to see the film.

Evaluating our teasr trailer

Overall i feel our teaser trailer works really well. It was very time consuming and hard to get the clips looking as we wanted as Pinnacle is so difficult to use. When something wasnt working out how we wanted e.g. the 'La Femme' and 'Coming Soon' to come up at different times we had to find alternatives on how to get it looking right, so we put the text on two different clips. This was very fiddly and hard to get the La Femme text looking the same on each slide.
I do like the home video effect as we didnt have to take much care making the camera as still as possible in clips as we were portraying teenage girls filming. I also like the fact that the speech in the film was not planned making it more realistic and not like we was reading off a script.
Overall i am very pleased it he way our teaser trailer looks and I feel it portrays a real teaser trailer as we fitted in all the conventions we could.

Editing our film - part 3

We decided we didnt want to use the knife clip as it did not work in our trailer, but we still wanted our film to portray the trailer genre. We used a recording device to record Katie breathing heavily and ending in a scream, this was going to go go at the end of our trailer on a black screen. This shows that we are not prepared to show what is going to happen but you can hear what is, making the audience make up own ideas about the narrative of our film. Before this we see Katie saying how much she likes the house and that she could get used to living in the new house. A black screen then comes up and white text saying 'wrong'. This gives a bit of narrative to the audience as the house isn't as good as what the girls think. The text comes up with a shotgun noise in the background, this bang sound makes the text seem more effective and follows conventions of other teaser trailers.
We then use the same shotgun sound for when our film title 'La Femme' comes up at the end and when coming soon is shown. This is effective as we want the audience to take not of the film title and also that the film is coming soon.
When editing the end, we had problems trying to get La Femme and Coming Soon up on the same clip, we decided to do it seperately in order to get the pop up effect we wanted. This finally worked and we got the text the same in order to make it seem like it was the same clip.

Editing our film - part 2

Today we carried on editing our film, we wanted to add in transitions and text in order to make our trailer flow better and make it look more proffessional. Between each clip we added in a fade to show the home video at different stages of the girls moving in. This shows that we are only showing certain clips of the film and not giving to much away to our audience. This made the trailer look a lot better than just having clear cuts as this did not follow the conventions of a trailer. We then wanted to follow more conventions of a trailer so we added the film production company in our trailer, this came at the beggining to follow the conventions. We called it 'Easton productions' as we tried all our groups surnames and we felt this one worked best. We also created a logo to make our productions company look more realistic and for our audience to recognize our film company.

Editing our film - part 1

Today we uploaded our film onto Pinnacle in order to edit what we had filmed the week before. After it was all uploaded we put the film shots we wanted to use onto the clip line and see how it would come together. We were worried that the teaser was too much narrative and not fitting the conventions of a teaser trailer, more a real trailer. Therefore we started editing the clips to make them shorter and less speech. This started to work really well as you cannot make out what is going to happen in the film but the audience would be able to have an idea. This will make audiences want to see the film as they do not know much about it but will build up an idea in their minds. We left the video for a while and moved onto transitions to make our film flow better. we added in fade in and outs to show that their is only little clips we are giving away of the film and that we are not prepared to show the film and give the narrative away, making watchers of the trailer to want to see the film. We saw this on many teaser trailers during our research e.g. Toy Story 3 so we know we are fitting the conventions of teaser trailers.

Filming

Today we booked a camera and went to Katies house to film our teaser trailer. We wanted to create a home video, in order for the audience to see the characters from their view. We started with a shot of us driving to our new house. The camera angles were all close up shot and the camera was shaky to show we were not proffesionals and to make it more like a home video made by an ordinary person. The next shot was a mid shot of me and Katie outside of our house getting the keys ready to go inside. We purposely look over happy in order to show to our audience that everything is good and nothing can ruin it for us. We then have rhiannon following us with the camera to the door and us opening the front door. We used a lot of general conversation about moving in and how excited we were, but no planned speech as we wanted to make it believeable that it was a home video. We also shot a close up of a knife on the kitchen surfae spinning to indicate the genre of our film to be thriller. The next shot a wide shot of me Katie and Rhiannon (filming) of us in our living room sitting down relaxing saying about how much we love our new house, again indicating that everything is okay and we are happy with living here. However to indicate the thriller genre I say I have a funny feeling about the house, and that I feel like we are being watched. This then makes it not seem so happy and makes the audience want to see what will go wrong at the house. The filming was time consuming as we may have said something wrong, or laughed etc. So many shots were taken in order to have a suitable one for our teaser trailer. Although this wansn't our original idea for our trailer I felt this may be a bit more believable and suitalble than the previous idea. Next lesson we will upload our video onto Pinnacle and start to edit our clips in order to get our trailer.

New Beyond Magazine Cover

We thought about our target audience and decided to change our colour scheme. We thought it may indicate a more feminine audience, so we changed our colours to red, green and white. This makes it look more masculine and more appealing to males. Also we made the headlines a lot bigger in order to make them more eyecatching for passers by. Also it fills up the front cover in order for less black space. The image of Grace is now on the cover. I feel this image is effective and makes her stand out against the black background. We decided to have her holding a candle to make the film look more old fashioned suggesting she is an old ghost from years ago. The nightie also indicates this. The candle also makes the poster look more scary as candles are often used in thriller films.
Overall i am pleased with our final magazine cover as i feel it fits the conventions of a film magazine and portrays our film genre with the image.

Thursday 28 January 2010

This is our drafted magazine cover on Publisher. We changed our colour scheme as when we tried the orange, green and blue it looked too girly and did not fit our target audience. We tried out many colours and finally decided on blue, yellow and white. the colour scheme now fits with the target audience and is also eye catching to attract the readers. The font for the title was called Baskerville old face, we liked this font as it looked like a typical clear font for a magazine cover. The other fonts we used was, century gothic, Bodoni MT, and Arial Black as these were all clear fonts to read quickly if you was walking past the shelves. All our titles are short pieces of text in order to get to the point of what the article is about inside e.g. Top 10 film reviews inside. We also we chose top have two related articles on our film as Grace will be our image for the cover. this shows that she is more superior than any other article in the magazine and that the main focus is La femme. We also have a win opportunity of a film poster from another film in our class, this is typical of magazine conventions as there is always a free poster to make the readers buy the magazine. We chose a black background as it makes the fonts brighter and also the image clearer once it is inputted. We put a barcode, price and date also on the magazine cover in order to follow the conventions and make the magazine realistic.

Charater Name Choice

We decided to name our character 'Emma-Lou'. We wanted a double barrelled name as it makes the name more distinct and different to just Emma as it is not as interesting. I thought about the scary character Emily Rose in the excorsist and thought Emma was close giving it a scary impression already. We thought this character name would work as it is quite an innocent, little girls name showing a contrast to what she is really like.

Film Title Choice

As our film is a thriller, we wanted to fit the film title to fit the genre. We thought about 'The Unknown' as the scary character is mysterious. However we discovered that this was already a film title. i thought if we had our film title in a different language it will be harder to have an already film made with the same title. We decided to keep the title simple and not much giveaway to the film so we decided on 'the girl' in french which then read 'La Femme', this gives the film more mystery as not every potential viewer of the film will know what this title means.

Film Poster and Film Magazine Cover Drafts

Here we have drafter our Film Magazine cover. We decided a blue, orange and green themed fonts as they are bright and eyecatching to our potential readers. We have fitted the theme of the thriller genre also by having a black background, this also makes our character, 'Emma-Lou' more visable as she is dressed in white. To fit the conventions of a magazine cover we have clearly displayed the date, price, bar codes etc. We also have other headlines in our chosen colours advertising new films, paying tibute to a famous actor and also giving away a free movie poster of the lastest film. We chose the name Beyond for our magazine name as it is indicating the films in our magazine are beyond our imagination. Also it is short and easy to remember for ourpotential customers. In our research we discovered that the characters on the cover hid part of the title with their head. We have followed this convention in order to make our magazine look more realistic.

Here is our draft of what our film poster will look like. We have fitted the thriller conventions again by having a black background to make it more scary and also to make the characters more clear. We have made 'Emma-Lou look dark and mysterious in the background to make audiences wonder who this scary figure is and what she wants. We then have a bright light shining on the characters, they look happy and innocent to make the characters more vulnerable. they are also dressed in bright clothes to make them stand out and look eye catching. At the bottom of the poster in red, another eyecatching colour, is says coming soon. We have not given a specific date as it keeps the audience waiting for the release date. Our film title 'La Femme' is in white, to make this stand out at the top of the poster against the black background.
